Silkscreening

On thursday we got to print our t-shirt design. The process was great to learn, and the design looks awesome on our t-shirts. Silkscreening was definitely a quick process on the presses once we got going. Special thanks to Leif, Dan and Sherri for helping us make it happen. Check out our pictures on Flickr to see our silkscreening efforts!

Final Design's for Printing

We have been very busy, and have each developed our own T-Shirt design. The next step for us is to decide which design we like best, and start burning screens.

T-Shirt designs underway

We've been working on our images for the t-shirt design this past week, and we'll be compiling them this week into one design and hopefully getting the screens burned and ready to print for next week.

We had the idea to draw each others' faces and put them together into 3 different designs. Wayne drew Meg, Meg drew Adam, and Adam drew Wayne. We then vectorized our drawings so they would work within Corel Draw, which is the program the silkscreening studio at Mohawk uses to produce screens. We are all contributing to each design so it will work as a collective.

Here are the vector images so far:

COLLECTEES: Collectively, we make tees.

Today in class, our professor Leif Peng pitched our final assignment to our class: do the culminating design project you've always wanted to do at Mohawk College, but never had the opportunity to work on. Together, Adam Excell, Meg Smith and Wayne Thayer chose to create a design collective to make silkscreened t-shirts (COLLECTEES).

At Mohawk College, only the Digital Graphic Design students are given the opportunity to silkscreen, so we jumped at the chance to get to use the facility before we all graduate. We will be documenting the whole process: talking about our ideas, experiences, and successes/failures. We hope that this will have the potential to go beyond our final assignment and that we'll all learn a little bit more about silkscreening and make it part of our respective Graphic Design careers. There you have it: the beginnings of COLLECTEES.

Thanks for reading, and check back soon for more updates.
